Heather Rhiannon Sime was born at 10:06 weighing 6 pounds and 15.5 ounces. She was quite full of mucus at first, and was a little 'grunty'. She was also not very interested in feeding, so the doctor had a quick look at her. She seemed happy that there was nothing much wrong, if anything, and decided to leave her for now, but to keep her in an incubator by the side of Joanne's bed, just to be on the safe side. By the evening, Heather had improved enormously. So much so, that she took a great feed, and was moved from the incubator into a normal cot. Matthew came into the hospital in the evening to meet his baby sister for the first time. His favourite part was when we let him hold her for a short while. I know he is going to make a great big brother.

Today, Heather made us thank our lucky stars, as we realise only too well how blessed we have been to have two such wonderful children as Matthew and Heather. They are our world, and our life. God bless them both.

Heather has continued to do well today, and has been taking her feeds. She was taken to the ward nursery overnight to allow Joanne to get some well needed rest. The doctor has also been back to give Heather a thorough health check, and says that she is absolutely fine.

Heather met her Grandparents today, and Matthew and I have been out shopping for some cute, frilly, pink vests and sleepsuits.

I helped Joanne to give Heather a bath today, and I spent some time alone with her when I gave her a bottle afterwards. She is not quite taking as much milk as she should, but we're getting there. Her nappies are not quite as 'full' as they should be, but the doctors don't seem too concerned for now. Heather met her Aunties, Uncles and cousins tonight, and they all think she is beautiful, not to mention tiny ! Joanne has been told that there is a good chance of them coming home tomorrow, and I can't wait to have them both here.

Today was a very special day for us, since today Heather came home. We all helped to get her ready in hospital, and Matthew helped lots whilst I made a couple of trips home to take bags, flowers and balloons. On our last trip, we put Heather into her car seat for the first time and she looked a little lost in there, but she looked snug and cosy at least. once home, she soon settled in, and had a nice nap in her Moses basket for the first time. She managed to sleep through the noise of us playing with Matthew, which is something she is going to have to get used to !

It was a busy day in the Sime household today. After a long, tiring first night with Heather, we had no end of visitors wanting to see our beautiful girl. Nanny Hayes, Auntie Michelle, Cousins Katie and James, plus 2 of our neighbours (who were very generous with some lovely gifts for Matthew as well as Heather). The midwives who have seen Joanne at home throughout her pregnancy also came to the house today, and met Heather for the first time. We could not decide who Heather looks like, but already I can see similarities to Matthew in her.

Yet another busy day, as various family members drop by to see our gorgeous bundle of joy. Matthew was very happy to be able to help bath Heather. Heather wasn't as keen though, as you can see from the pictures below ! Once she had been dried and dressed again, she soon calmed down though.

The last day in this whistle-stop tour through Heather's first week gives us some great pictures. She is quite adept at letting us know she needs feeding now - in no uncertain terms ! Although the first week or two will be difficult and very busy, I know that once we get settled into a routine, things will get much easier. I also know that Heather, just like Matthew, will give us many happy moments, and Joanne and I are very proud of them both.
